BioPods Collection,

Undergraduate Degree Show

Locksbrook Campus, Bath - June 2023

This work is about pushing the boundaries of materiality. These pods are fabricated from bioplastic, a combination of agar, water and glycerine they are derived from plant matter, algae, seaweed alongside various natural dyes. Designed and manufactured into sculpture they suggest a potential symbiotic relationship between humans and plants of the future. With the intention to design with life instead of around it, harnessing the potential of plants and their abilities.

This biomaterial can be utilised for the initial stages of plant growth. Once produced it can establish seed germination with rapid growth due to its rich nutrients and natural proteins. These plants were grown from bioplastic and are now displayed to show a potential development of ecosystems using this process and how we can work with plants to fabricate a more sustainable future.
